not just Easter

by Kerry

I’ve been having tons of fun the past several weeks secretly gathering little treats for my kids. Little special somethings to arrange in a family Easter basket. And while we don’t go hog wild with the “stuff” – it’s still fun to celebrate in creative ways.

Yes, I want them to get excited and remember the little things that make up our family moments. But what I really want them to get excited about this Easter?…the Bible that will be in the basket this year. The big empty egg. The thought that we get to go to church and celebrate the risen Christ. The overwhelming feeling that they’re loved, by their parents who desired them beyond what words convey, and most importantly by the King of kings. Loved by this One:

Christ (who) suffered for you.
“He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth.”

When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you {we} have been healed.

1 Peter 2:21-24

Not just Easter. I want them to grasp this love more and more, each day-month-year they grow older and wiser.

That my children know that love, live that love, share that love.
Beyond exciting.
