Sip This (Tuesdays Unwrapped)

by Kerry

Sometimes a sip really is as simple as it needs to be.

I’m *trying* to remain consciously aware of when too much is too much this season. And I’m grateful I’ve allowed myself some slack. So when I start to have those feelings of stress and holiday overload, I’m choosing to stop immediately – remind myself that {fill in the blank} is robbing me of joy – and then quickly shift my attention to meaningful moments. This is making all the difference in the world for me, and inevitably my family, this Christmas.

Here’s where the sips often come into play. We created our Hot Chocolate Bar this week and when we feel tensions building, or tempers flaring, the bar becomes open for business. Our chocolate hearts our ready to go to be melted into some rich goodness. Sprinkles, crushed candy canes, and marshmallows of various sizes sit in pretty jars waiting to top the next steaming cup.
It’s cute. It’s fun. It’s simple. These sips mean great conversations with my kids. They mean de-stressing in the middle of a tough math assignment for him, or putting the brakes on having the perfectly decorated home this month for me. Cozying up to our sweet puppy under a soft blanket. Reading by the lit tree just because.

The month flys by so quickly. Much of what we usually burn ourselves out with… not worth it. Especially when you’re recapping it all in your head come the middle of January, trying to catch your breath.

This is our life. Messy house and all in the background. But if we’re still smiling most days and loving each other lots, it’s a good season.
